Captioning

What It Is

Captioning involves using a video editing software to take audio information from a basic transcript and divide it into time-coded chunks that match the audio. This will result in an open-captioned video where the audio information can be read as it’s happening.

What You Need

  • A laptop or computer
  • Headphones
  • Adequate to good vision
  • Ability to hear and understand spoken English
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions and incorporate feedback
  • A passion for access work

Video Preparation

What It Is

ProtestAccess posts the content we make accessible to our various social media accounts. However, different social media platforms have different requirements for video size and length. As someone who does video preparation (affectionately called Slicer/Dicer/Gluer among volunteers), you would prepare captioned videos to be posted to social media.

What You Need

  • A laptop or computer
  • Headphones
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions and incorporate feedback
  • A passion for access work
